BIG ESSAY 2ND DRAFT

In Andy's revelation class, we were discussing the reappearing idea of a trope. A trope is a lot like a mix of an archetype and a motif. According to Wiki a trope is a common pattern, theme, or motif in literature. A trope is what makes a story defining who the characters are and what role that they play. (Elliots) We obviously looked at the revelation trope and saw how the different parts of it (sub tropes) make the plot what it is. The trope is made up of many ideas, that all change here and there, but still lead the same story. What Andy used to explain all of these counterparts was: "(1) The ignorant masses in an (2)unacceptable/oppressive situation when a (3)prophet/reveler tries to (4)share the message (5)that connects the dots in a new way (6) and offers a vision of a redeemed world (7) but there is opposition to the message/prophet (8)drama occurs." This is a little back and forth but hits all the main points of the revelation trope.


In the matrix, Foxfire, Star wars and many other different stories, the main characters have revelations and want others to experience very similar things. They go around and try to inform the ignorant masses. They fight off anti christ like characters and try to get their points across.


Neo is the Jesus like character in the Matrix, and he is there to "save the world". Cypher doesnt like this, let alone, he tries to stop him from doing this. Morpheus is a rophet and he wants to pen Neos eyes, but he can only tell him to open them, Neo needs to do it. Like morpheus says, I can only show you the path, you have to walk it. this is very pwerful, since all of our lfes, people tell us to do things, they show us how and what to do, but Morpheus wants Neo to figure it out for himsself, so he tells him to do it, but lets neo actually do it and figure out why, how and what it really does for his life. Norpheus only does things to help neo, so its not like jumping over the roof scene is just there for fun, its to show jhim that reality means nothing. When morphues sacrifices himself for Neo, which is a little contradictory, he does it so that Neo can make the decision and must fufuill he destiny. But by giving himself up, it doesnt get them anywhere except half of their t eam is killed by Cypher and now Morpheus is being tortured and talked to by Smith. SMith wants alot of info, and Morheus will not give it to him. He doesnt want to be there any more. He, smith, wants to crakc th matrix himself so that he can be wasted along with it. He hates living and doesnt want to deal with the slaves and whatnot. he wants out. "Have you ever marveled at it?"Mr. Smith goes into alot of detail explaining that, like a virus, Humans do the same thing by finding a body to live only to destroy it and to move on to the next victim. He is very clever in this, since, humans travel all around, deplteing resourcses, killing others and just destroying anything around them. Humans are terrible.


In the class, we were to create book groups, so Elliot, Gaby, Nicole, Margaux and etc all joined and we were supposed to read about Tuesdays with Morrie, by Mitch Albom but none of us actually did. COurtney and Caitlin explained Tuesdays with Morrie, saying it was a student who always goes to his proffessor whos dying. He does accept his death on the way. You can tell hes genuine by the way he speaks, because he is still happening and has no reason to teach unimportant stuff. He is a true prophet and does not care what people have to say. The student is a lot like the stupid masses who dont know what to do and need a leader.


We were assigned to read a book and watch a movie that had a revelation story. The book I read was "The Half True Diary of a half Indian" by Sherman Alexi. It was about a young Indian boy from the Reservation and who lived his life the res way until the 9th grade, where his teacher (that he had broke his nose) opened up his eyes and told him to get out and live the real life. SO he transfers to another school outside the Res. He meets new people, but people who actually like him after they get to know him and after he punches the head jock in the face. He notices it is different off of the res. He lives in the Res still, but goes to school every day outside and after a while, he notices that theyre all the same, and that his new white gf, is supposed to be with the big white jock, because in the suburbs, thats how it is. He has a few revelations through out this, but I think the first and most important was when his teacher says get out before you get dragged in. If you dont leave now, yoll never leave, youill be here for ever and wont leave the Res, so get out while yuo can.


the Movie I decided to watch was The Breakfast Club. All of the 5 high school kids are trapped in the library for detention on a bright and beautiful saturday morning. The principal is a huge dick and wont let them leave. The reasons theyre in are all different and their peronalities are surely different! Punk, princess, jock, dork and bitch whore bag. They all hate eachother and have a lot of problems with each other, but they do what they have to....for a little bit. They decide to do stupid shit and get in trouble and play music and just go crazy. When the principal catches them, he gives them al the hardest time. They come together in the end by seeing that what they think about the other person is correct, but there is so much more. The dorks have te same pressures and shit to deal with and so on.


Another favorite was Star Wars 4. LITTLE BOY LUKE SKYWALKER is the main character. His aunt and uncle who deny his whole life and make everything up die right at the begininng. He is adopted by his uncle ben who we find out is Obi Wan Kinobe, his fathers friend. He knew his fatehr and Luke hears a little about him and learns that DArth Vader killed him.Luke sets out to become a jedi. He goes with Obi Wan and to get a transport, they meet Chewee and Han Solo. Their new compradres that they dont like very much. They fly right into a trap and get dragged into another ship. They save the Princess and decide to leave, but thye run into trouble and Ben gets killed by Vader.
The young Jedi is now with no one except his new princess freind, SOlo and Chewee and the 2 droids who play the comic gay couple. He needs to find out more and he helps fight the rebellion with the Revolutioners, more like the Revelationers. He winds up making the final shot (his orgasm) into the rebel base and blows it to smithereens. AT this point, he feels the force within himslef and knows he is a chosen one.
I feel like the force is a revelation waiting to happen. Obi wan is a prophet letting skywalker in on all the details and telling all the truth and truly fufilling his role as prophet. Vader, skywalkers father asks him to join, but Luke knows this is abad idea and decides ot fight off the evil forces.


Losing someone can open your eyes to alot of things. The truth mostly, and I feel like people can self rvelate. If someting big happens, like a death of a family, friend and so on.,I think peoples eyes are opened and they start to understand more. In EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE, BY JONATHAN SAFFRON FOER, Oscar the young boy goes in search of info on his deceased father. He wants to know more from the point he finds a key with BLACK on the envelope to the point where he meets the reason for the key. He goes through alot of stuff to find out, but he finds the answer and feels better knownig it was something and it wasnt a waste of time.
This revelation was very big and hit the 9 year old fairly hard. Such a prone mind to anything, and all of a sudden his father dies and he believes that he left him clues. I think the self revelation is one of the strongest, because you can question other people easy, but when it comes down to questioning yourself, how will you deal with it?


in the movie THEY LIVE, the main character finds glasses that uncover the sheath pulled over his eyes. When this hobo like man puts on the simple looking sunglasses, he sees all of the truth. He realizes what he has been seeig is a complete lie and he cannot believe it anymore.
It shows him that when he looks at a magazine, (the economist ironically enough) he sees words LIKE OBEY, SLEEP, LISTEN TO US, AND SO ON. When he removes the glasses, he sees the old magazine as he normaly would with the ock info and what not.
Then when he looks at the tv, in the background where it usually saysthe new company or channel it now says OBEY IN HUGE LETTERS
the question i have is "is it considered subliminal or is it only seen by the glass wearers?"
Who would deny this and who wouldnt want to wear the glasses and also, who would wear the glasses for aminute and then all of a sudden deny the whole thing and continue living life with out the glasses or ideas that its all fak?
They live is a perfect revelation story, and thus the protagonist becomes the prophet and tries to inform the ignorant masses. He tries the token black man that helped him in the beginning, and then after a 10 min fight seen, they both bvelieve.
He kills cops easy because all the evl people have demon like faces and mostrous.
The poeple that are good jjst have the same faces though tge glases. In one scence, you see 2 men, 1 demon and the other fine. The demon face says something about you just gotta do it, and then the regular guy says thats easy froy uo tosay, you got the extrea pay.


I know itsa little cleshay, but my mother ha sopened my eyes to so much, wether it be about sexual ed, partying, drinking drugs etc, and just life as it is. Becaus of my aspergers syndrome, I need to be informed not of current events, but how to ract to people and how to deal with diaily things in life. This s hard for me and my mother, but she does a hellof a job, dealing with me and helping me. She tells me abouyt the rel life jerks and asshooles that take advantage o f drunk womne.
I hate thgis, because my mother hates this and she taught em to.
I dont like drinnkiing to get so drunk i dont feel anything and I know when i got o college i will be ok to drinnk not liuke the other kids whos parents alwas told them no tot drink. all of these childrentgo away to college anbd lose it and have no restricions and they just wind up dying from alcohol poisoning or a car crash because of DUI. its so stupid. The way my mother just lets me know eveyrnonece and a while is good She doesnt pour it out o n me but she just ells me stuff and i have many revelations during the week.
